Australia’s first embodied carbon rated facility
Ian Barter, Managing Director for Australia, Frasers Property Industrial:
“I’m incredibly proud of the work our teams and partners have put into this achievement. At Frasers Property Industrial, we’ve always backed ourselves to lead the sector on sustainability and innovation, and becoming the first industrial developer in Australia to secure a NABERS embodied carbon rating really reinforces that ambition.
“Embodied carbon is a major hurdle on the path to net zero, and this work shows it’s possible to move the dial when we collaborate with like-minded companies”.
What is embodied carbon and why does it matter?
Andrew Thai, National Sustainability Manager, Frasers Property Industrial:
“While operational carbon reduction pathways are becoming clearer, embodied carbon remains a major part of Australia’s Net Zero challenge. By championing schemes such as this, we are taking significant steps to addressing the emissions locked into our built environment”
The process
Why this is important
Andrew Thai, National Sustainability Manager, Frasers Property Industrial
“Materials supply chains are complex and there are multiple parties involved. Since the introduction of the NABERS Embodied Carbon rating, our industry now has a standardised approach on measuring upfront embodied carbon in our buildings. This enables all parties involved in the supply chain to work off a consistent framework to collectively work towards reducing the embodied emission impacts.”
Magali Wardle, Director, NABERS
“Embodied carbon in the next frontier when it comes to reducing carbon emissions in buildings.
“The team at Frasers Property Industrial and Mainbrace has set a great example by collecting and exceptional level of construction data and choosing materials backed by Environmental Product Declarations. This is exactly the kind of leadership Australia needs to scale low-carbon construction.”
