One of Queensland’s most innovative industrial developments, South West 1 is leading the charge on progressive wellbeing and sustainability initiatives.
The completion of Phoenix Transport’s state-of-the-art facility in South West 1 Industrial Estate (SW1) – partly owned by Frasers Property Industrial – is a thrilling finale to one of Queensland’s most innovative 29-hectare industrial developments. SW1 has become a great success story for the state, demonstrating the economic and human potential for industrial developers to embed market-leading health and wellbeing, tech and sustainability initiatives into their bespoke facilities.
Frasers Property Industrial became a significant land holder and developer within the Estate in 2013, after purchasing an 8.9-hectare parcel of land and subsequently a further 4.4 hectares from Logan City Council. The Council had the vision to transform a parcel of its unusable wetlands into a meticulously designed and developed industrial estate that would draw investment to the City of Logan, creating hundreds of jobs in the process.
Originally zoned for a high-tech business park, the land was rezoned to mixed use, attracting industrial developers that could unlock the site’s potential and utilise the unrivalled major transport links nearby including the M1 and the Logan Motorway. In doing so, SW1 secured leading third party logistics (3PL) and manufacturing companies to the area including National Tiles, PACCAR, GMK, Avery Dennison, Huhtamaki, Phoenix Transport and Sigma Healthcare.
As with every one of our estates, we worked to exceed our customers’ expectations of what a sustainable, innovative and employee-centric industrial precinct can offer. We care deeply about the wellbeing of the people who work in and visit our estates, which is why we’ve embedded progressive health and wellbeing initiatives into SW1. We utilised the neighbouring Berrinba Wetlands to build 8.5 kilometres of running and walking tracks, basketball courts, electric BBQ and picnic areas, fitness equipment and children’s playgrounds. We’ve also introduced sustainability measures to foster positive environmental and community outcomes, including installing a birdwatching platform, an undercover interactive facility and 100 nest boxes for birds, possums and sugar gliders.
Our substantial investment in the areas of sustainability and health and wellbeing are reaping significant dividends for our customers and stakeholders alike.
Gavin McAnulty, Queensland State Manager at Phoenix Transport, comments, “Our Queensland transport arm is rapidly expanding and has outgrown our current site. We needed to consolidate our operations to create better operational efficiencies and open up more opportunities in 3PL.
“The new warehouse is targeting a 5 Star Green Star Design and As Built rating which will generate significant cost savings for the company. Greater business efficiencies have already been achieved by Phoenix Transport from energy and water perspectives following the move into Horsley Drive Business Park.”
SW1 leads the charge in the rapidly-evolving industrial sector by creating infrastructure that serves a vital function in society – making our cities more future-ready and liveable.
