Our facility for Probiotec Multipack at The YARDS in Kemps Creek, NSW, has been granted the first National Australian Built Environment Rating System (NABERS) embodied carbon rating.

This milestone marks an important step forward for industrial property across the country and for how embodied carbon is measured in the built environment.

What is embodied carbon and why does it matter?
Embodied carbon is the carbon footprint of a building, including the emissions generated during construction – from manufacturing materials and waste through to transport and site energy use. It comprises of all the "hidden" emissions that occur before a building is ever occupied. 

As we create more energy-efficient buildings, embodied carbon makes up a larger share of a building’s lifetime emissions. By focusing on reducing embodied carbon, we can significantly lessen the environmental impact of construction.

The NABERS embodied carbon tool administered by the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water provide a consistent national method for measuring those hidden emissions.
